Curry Evening: 31 August 2013
As part of raising funds for the restoration of the grade II listed building, the Good Shepherd Church, the Kerala Catholic community responded by hosting a wonderful Curry evening in the parish centre. A considerable amount of money is required for this very necessary work, in the region of about £250 000. There is no doubt of the great love the parishioners have for their church, a magnificent architectural wonder meets the eye when one enters this very peaceful place of worship. If you haven't yet visited this wonderful church we encourage you to make a visit and take time to reflect on it's beauty, all glory given to God. One of the immediate responses from the Kerala Catholic community was an collection amongst their families which raised over £1415 and was presented to Canon Philip Ziomek at a Sunday Mass. However this was not enough for they felt they wanted to do something that involved the entire parish, which resulted in them hosting a wonderful Curry evening (tickets sold out very quickly) which was accompanied by traditional Indian dance, selling of raffle tickets, selling of costume jewellery and henna body painting. This was all enthusiastically embraced by the guests with this event raising over a further £1000. The finale to a very joyous and happy evening, was the display of dance moves from a very able Fr Robbie O'Callaghan and Fr Biju Joseph mimicking the moves of two dancers showing them the moves! We would all like to thank the Kerala Community for their very generous contribution towards the restoration fund of the Good Shepherd Church. We would like to take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who is able in any way to further help us with this cause to contact Canon Philip Ziomek at God bless you all.
