Golden Jubilee Flower & Music Festival 10-14 September 2014
Taking a moment to reflect on the Golden Jubilee Flower & Music Festival which took place from 10-14 September 2014 at the Good Shepherd Church in Nottingham, accompanied by amazing weather, we all agree that it was a resounding success. A varied and interesting music programme unravelled each day, finishing with a very polished performance from the Kanneh-Mason string trio family members which stirred many to their feet! The floral displays were impressive, each celebrating the wonderful Sacraments of the glorious Catholic faith, including references to the schools attached to this parish, as well as The Little Company Of Mary religious order. The Gala opening evening was well attended, included choir music conducted by Alex Patterson, music director from St Barnabas Cathedral, bagpipes by young Andrew Haig and very skilful playing on the guitar by Hugh Millington. This wonderful evening set the spirit for the rest of the festival, as people visited throughout the following days, taking in the breathtaking beauty of God's creations enhanced by the gifted florists, as people moved on to mingle in the hall, browsing the stalls to see what was on offer, sharing in the very generous offerings from parishioners, many varieties of cakes donated for this fundraiser which turned out to be a great success in many ways. Community ties were strengthened, ideas have blossomed, nearly £4000 raised and a real joy could be sensed amongst the visitors as they were made to feel most welcomed by all, particularly by our well presented church stewards who were always on hand to help out as needed. A special thank you to Rebecca Newell, director of this event and to all the flower arrangers who were involved, not only from the Good Shepherd Church, also those from St Barnabas Cathedral and the Church of England Floral Group. Without the input of all these very talented individuals, the free giving of their generous time and gifts this entire event would not have been possible. May God continue to build up this parish, strengthen it's ties with the local community as we all reach out to those a round us, and help out selflessly as needed. God bless.
