Carol Service & Secret Santa - 18 December 2015
Well! We run out of superlatives when we recognise what a marvellous celebration this was. Many went home with a rosy glow to the cheek, sampling Czech "Bekarowka"- a typical Czech welcome drink and Austrian Schnapps- a similar welcome drink. The evening began with a tremendous Carol Service for which undoubtedly, the Parish Choir had spent many weeks preparing. Those rehearsals are greatly appreciated as we were led us so beautifully into the final few days of the "Great 'O' Anthems Octave". Thank you to Robert O'Farrell and the Choir as well as our Organist for all of the hard work that produced such a wonderful celebration. As people streamed into a packed parish centre the evening progressed with fine food, eagerly devoured that nothing remained, games, raffles, festive stall and eventually the arrival of Santa Claus announced by a posse of young helpers. Santa's Grotto and the various halls of the centre look splendid in their festive decoration, and the atmosphere was a pure bacchanlia. We express our sincere thanks to all who made this possible. The donor of gifts; the people who prepared the hall; the wonderful team of willing helpers: (the ladies of the kitchen Pat and daughter Caroline, Catherine and daughter Glenda, and friend Sylvia made a big job look easy!) A thank you to David and his young team members who took care of the night entertainment and raffles. A special big thank you to the Cook and benefactor of all the gifts of the evening who ensured once again a splendid supper for all. Finally a big thank you to all who supported this event and helped raised a wonderful sum of over £1500 so far banked towards the parish building fund.
