First Holy Communion 24 June 2017
After an intensive 6 month programme, on Saturday the 24th June, 54 children celebrated the Sacrament of First Holy
Communion. The day kicked off early with children arriving for photographs in the parish centre from 9am. A film was
showing in the Josephinium Hall to help keep the children entertained, while they waited patiently for the photographs
to finish. At approximately 11am the children were led by their teachers and catechists into the beautifully prepared
church, full of eagerly awaiting parents, family and parishioners.
The children processed onto the sanctuary where they performed a beautiful hymn. They were then seated at the front of
the church with their catechists. The children led all the readings and bidding prayers and soon the time came for them
to receive; for the first time, the precious Body of Jesus Christ. It was a momentous occasion and they all did extremely
well. The children were all individually presented with a certificate, candle and prayer book before receiving a well-deserved
round of applause.
Some of the teachers from the Good Shepherd School had prepared a reception for the children in the Marian Hall. An array of
treats awaited them, including a beautiful cake.
A truly wonderful day was had by all, with many parents sharing their gratitude for the support given to their children for
the preparation of this beautiful Sacrament. Many commenting that it was a very moving experience.
