Sacrament of First Confession
On Saturday the 4th of March, 52 Children from the Good Shepherd Parish celebrated their First Reconciliation Sacrament. The children have been coming to catechesis on a Sunday morning or a Friday night since January and are led by very committed team of catechists.
There were 8 visiting priests on the day including our very own Canon Philip and Father Biju Joseph. During the service Joe Hopkins the School Chaplain, created a calm and peaceful environment by reading Scripture with the support of two brothers, Jake and Louis Smith (university lads) played the organ beautifully.
After making their first confession the children were then invited to light a candle and place it on the Sanctuary altar rail, signifying all the sins that were forgiven this day. It was a wonderful and joyous occasion to see the families celebrating such a beautiful sacrament.
At the end of the service each child was called up to the Alter to receive a certificate pack, a medal and of course a round of applause! The families were then invited to the Marian Hall to participate in a shared table in which all the families had contributed. One Family; the Salome-Millers donated a beautiful celebration cake for all the children to share.
Parents commented on what a wonderful experience it had been and what a marvellous job the catechists have done in preparing the children for such a special sacrament. The candidates thoroughly enjoyed the experience, some so much they asked if they could do it all again!
The children will now continue their programme working towards the Sacrament of First Holy Communion which will be celebrated on the 24th June 2017.
