The Good Shepherd Christmas Fair
On Saturday 24 November, over 1000 people gathered in the Good Shepherd Church Hall to celebrate its annual Christmas Fair. A huge success, the event had a wonderful community vibe. Kick starting the morning, the church was joined by Notts Fire and Rescue, who spent time with the children and parents, enabling them to sit in the fire engine and chat to the firemen. The fair attracted local residents, children from neighbouring schools as well as the local congregation and families from the Good Shepherd school. Over £8,955.87 (an increase of £1,573.48 (21.3%) on last year's figure) was raised towards the parish building fund, which will help pay for urgent repairs to the church. When asked the secret of this success, the organiser, Sarah Benedek, commented: "It's all down to teamwork. There is so much talent in our community and when you ask these wonderful people to take on the responsibility for a stall and fundraising, they have all stepped up to the mark and exceeded expectations". The event was marketed widely using school networks, social media and the parish newsletter and website, which has led to strong attendance figures. The quality of donations was also high, with over £600 raised in advance from selling some of the bric-a-brac using sites such as eBay and Marketplace.
