Parish Christmas Bazaar
On Saturday 23 November, the Good Shepherd Church in Woodthorpe hosted its annual Christmas Fair. Despite the rain and the damp conditions, the fair was a tremendous success, raising £9047.95 - the largest sum ever. In a change from previous years, nearly all the stalls were run by parishioners, mainly selling their own crafts on behalf of the church. Examples included handknitted toys, advent posies, pet baubles, cakes, homemade lunches, Asian cuisine and much more. Santa joined in the festivities and gave sweets to all the children who visited his grotto and the fire service gave their time freely for the community to look around their fire engine and pose for pictures. "We're absolutely delighted with the amount raised and the success of our prestigious fair," said Sarah Benedek, who helps co-ordinate the fair. "It really is a team effort with so many of our wonderful community sharing both their time and talents for the same goal. Coupled with the receipt of £3772 in Co-op Community Funding yesterday and it really has been a great weekend for our parish affairs."
