In spite of the competition in the community for festive fairs, families arrived at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Woodthorpe in their droves on Saturday 25 November 2023 to visit Santa and to explore the inside of a working fire engine and police van. They queued patiently and were rewarded with homemade food and cakes, festive crafts and treats, a FREE Santa's grotto with a treat for every child, tombolas and unique gifts. The fair was open from 10.30am to 2.30pm and raised a whopping £10,360.82, the highest amount ever raised.

Since 2017, the fair has been organised by Sarah Benedek, and each year has been an improvement on the previous year's fundraising success. Since 2017, Sarah and her team have raised £56,823.08.

"The volunteers and I are absolutely delighted with what we've been able to achieve. A lot of planning and preparation goes into creating an event like this and so it's a proud moment for the whole team when it successfully comes together, and to raise five figures has been the cherry on the cake. Given the community competition for these types of events, we were all surprised at how well we did and we thank everyone who supported our event."

One of the things that distinguishes the Good Shepherd Fair is its ability to remain affordable and therefore, accessible to wider society. "The whole team is committed to keeping prices low to ensure more of our community could participate in all we do. It has paid off as the visitors came in their droves again, resulting in such an awesome fundraising total. It was great to see so many children visit Santa, but more than that, the pride of seeing so many new faces then visit our beautiful church and spend a quiet moment with Jesus," says Sarah Benedek, the fair's organiser.
