NAME OF SERVICE: | Sacristans |
DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE: |
A sacristan is a lay member of the Catholic ministry who is responsible, on a rota basis, for maintaining the Sacristy where the church's liturgical items are kept including vestments, sacred vessels and books etc. The sacristan must have a sound knowledge of the liturgical rites performed in the church and must be able to work and communicate well with others as part of a team. We are fortunate as a parish to have a dedicated team of sacristans to undertake this important ministry. |
WHERE/WHEN? |
The Sacristy is a room closely associated with the church Sanctuary, where all the priest's and deacon's vestments as well as other church furnishings, sacred vessels and liturgical books are kept. The parish maintains a rota of sacristans, thereby ensuring that sacristans are available to support every Mass and Adoration Service held in church on each day of the week. |
HOW CAN I BE INVOLVED? |
A sacristan must be a baptised Catholic and a member of the Church. If you feel called to this ministry please speak with Cheryl Broodryk (contact details below) or the parish priest. Appropriate training will be provided. |
HOW CAN I GET HELP FROM THE SERVICE? |
This is a very rewarding ministry where one is able to find spiritual enrichment by serving Almighty God through the duties associated with the sacristan position. |
